Apocalyptica kept Cliff Burton's bass line on Metallica's "The Call of Ktulu".

Apocalyptica continues the release of singles from the album "Apocalyptica Plays Metallica Vol. 2", this time with a name more appreciated by die hard fans. It's about the cover of "The Call of Ktulu", which this time includes Cliff Burton's original bass line.

Former Metallica bassist Cliff Burton died in a bus accident in 1986. Burton joined Metallica in 1982 and contributed significantly to the band's first three albums: "Kill 'Em All" (1983), "Ride the Lightning" (1984) and "Master of Puppets" (1986). His innovative style of bass playing and his diverse musical influences, which included classical music and jazz, had a major impact on the band's sound and musical direction.

"The Call of Ktulu" is the fourth and last single from the new album, after "The Four Horsemen", "The Unforgiven II" and "One". On the latter we even heard James Hetfield, with a fresh interpretation of the legendary track. The original "Ktulu" appeared on Metallica's second album, "Ride the Lightning".

How this cover was born we learn from Eicca Toppinen, the leader of Apocalyptica:

I've learned in life that if you have crazy ideas, it's always worth asking, so I called Lars [Ulrich, METALLICA drummer]! He was like, I love that you guys always think outside the box!' James [Hetfield, frontman of METALLICA] loved the idea, and I met someone close to Cliff and she was equally excited. It was a spiritual experience working on it. We wanted to treat this project with the utmost honor and respect, and it was magical to have people so close to Cliff say he would have loved it.

The LP arrived on June 7th via Throwdown Entertainment and continues the journey that Apocalyptica started in 1996, when they released a Metallica covers album, shocking everyone. Here is the tracklist of the new Apocalyptica album:

01. Ride The Lightning
02. St. Anger
03. The Unforgiven II
04. Blackened
05. The Call Of Ktulu (in memory of Cliff Burton)
06. The Four Horsemen (feat. Rob Trujillo)
07.Holier Than Thou
08. To Live Is To Die
09. One (feat. James Hetfield and Rob Trujillo)
10. One (instrumental)
