Sweet & Lynch: Only to Rise

Frontiers/Playground

Messrs. Michael Sweet of STRYPER and George Lynch of DOKKEN, LYNCH MOB, KXN etc fame decided to join forces and dragged James Lomenzo (WHITE LION, MEGADETH, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY) and Brian Tichy (WHITESNAKE) along for the fun. Frontiers Records seems to be in project mode but this seems to be a band. With this lineup the formalities are done and dusted, it only remains to find out if they live up to their full potential...

Opener “The Wish” is all about catchy guitar patterns and solid rhythm. Michel´s voice suits, the pace oiis right but still they have their own slight twist on traditional classic hard rock. It´s all there and a bertter start is not possible. The material is of the highest standard, with only the slightly NUFF Z´NUFF-ish “Hero-Zero” slightly out of place. But “Time Will Tell”, teh opener and the title trrack are all classics. George has not been this amusing for many a day, there are echoes of their respective bands plus JOE LYNN TURNER, blues, IRON MAIDEN and faster traditional eighties hard rock in general. I especially appreciate the faster songs. I sincerely hope for at least two more albums.
