Napalm Records/Sound Pollution
GRAVE DIGGER provide yet Another slab of surefire German Heavy Metal. I may noy sound all that enthusiastic about this perfectly fine album, but it has a ring of Monday at the office in my ears. Chris Boltendahl is back, with cohorts Axel "Ironfingers" ERitt, guitars, the latest addition who has been around for a few years now, Jens Becker, bass, ex. RUNNING WILD, H.P. Katzenburg, keyboards, and Stefan Arnold, drums. Chris has as you all probably know been around siince 1980, as he is co-founder and sole remaning member.
Opener "Return of the Reaper" is Marche Funebre, fist with piano, then with full Electric backing. CANDLEMASS did well with it and it sure is metal. Most of the material here is safely Teutonic and similar to ACCEPT, and of cause PRIMAL FEAR. There is also a touch of The European Song Contest is tracks like "Tattooed Rider". GRAVE DIGGER is never really dangerous here. There are similarities in songs like "Road Rage Killer", "Tattooed Rider", "Hell Funeral", "Grave Desecrator" which is one of the styles, "the Wacken crowd pleasers". Next up we have the retro tracks; "Season of the Witch", "Wargod", and " Satan´s Host". Finally we have the sensitive ones; "Dia de Los Muertos" and especially "Nothing to Believe". The latter is snuk in last, but is in my mind the absolute highlight of the album. I may generalize a bit but i dare say you can put all tracks i´nto these Three segments. Nevertheless thi si a fine album but metal is supposed to be dangerous..right?
