Fatal Smile: White Trash Heroes

Review3566_FS_WTH

FS Records/GMR

Hard touring and now hastily defunked act FATAL SMILE leaves their last and fifth mark. Mr Y, guitars, Alx, bass, Blade, vocals and Philty, drums, have made themselves busy since 1995, 2007, 2007 and 2010 respectively playing with the likes of DIO, W.A.S.P., TWISTED SISTER and EUROPE. Everyone seemed to consider them the next big think why the spilt was a surprise.

There was something workmanlike to FATAL SMILE. Everything was steeped in the eighties, yet there was something fresh about them as well as a dose of Sweden as most people could guess their origins. Mr Y had something Blackie-ish about his voice, and I can understand why Dio chose them as support. This time around I guess that the split was imminent. Something about the average song on this album hints at losing steam and going on repeat. But the refrains were there, just listen to “Heartache & Pain”, “Dirty Little Secret”, “Reflections from the Past” and the fat 80´s production of the recycled “Hip MF”. And most important of all, instead of running on empty for years denigrating their name the band left whilst still on top...as described in “Gave It All”!
