Sziget Festival 2015 - Days 4 & 5

Is it Saturday already? It's true what they say, time flies when you're having fun! The fourth and fifth days of Sziget Festival 2015 have come and gone, so today we have a lot to talk about.

We began our Thursday at the Main Stage, where we saw The Maccabees, The Ting Tings, Foals and Ellie Goulding. Honestly, it really isn’t the best line-up ever if you compare it to the other days, but beggars can't be choosers. We have to say that even though The Ting Tings had a pretty big crowd, they aren't quite Main Stage material. Katie White's voice was pretty mediocre and the band’s music didn't really make us jump and dance. The same thing applies to Ellie Goulding. Well, almost the same. Let's be clear, she has a wonderful voice and she had a huge crowd in front of her, but at a festival where the headliners of the first two days are Robbie Williams and Florence and the Machine, Goulding doesn't quite belong.

The Foals, on the other hand, were amazing. Specifically, their last three songs were incredible. The lead singer Yannis Philippakis managed to jump not once, not twice, but three times off the stage and into the crowd. And guess who went crazy every time this happened? Exactly, the crowd loved every single moment. Philippakis had to be carried out of the public by the poor security guys every single time. This is what a band should always do, give the fans an ending so mind-blowing that they won't forget it. Good job, Foals!

The biggest band that performed on the A38 Stage on Thursday was without a doubt Interpol. Even though they gathered a smaller crowd than we would have expected, they sang their most well-known songs and gave the fans a hell of a show. There was only one problem with this concert, a problem that plagues all the A38 shows: the sound was trash. Every time we went to a concert at this stage, our immersion was immediately destroyed by the low quality of the sound and, sadly, this is not a problem only for us, but for a lot of the fans that complained about this.

Because a day at Sziget 2015 wouldn't be complete without a glance at one of the smaller stages, we went to the World Music Stage to see the Romani-Romanian traditional music band Taraf de Haidouks and it was wonderful. It was really cool to see people of different nationalities dancing and having fun and to the music of a band that sang exclusively in Romanian. This is the beauty of a huge and extremely diverse festival. Nobody care where you come from as long as you entertain the hell out of them.

Friday was all about Avicii. Some of you may not know who the Swedish DJ Avicii is. Well, he's the guy whose songs you had no idea that you knew, and we mean every single one of them. You've heard them on TV, on the radio, in commercials, everywhere. Because all the tickets for the fifth day were sold out, the crowd that gathered in front of the Main Stage was enormous, we dare to say even bigger than the one at Robbie Williams' concert. Since he's a DJ, what lacked in stage activity, he made up for in brilliant light and fire shows.

But Avicii wasn't the only one who performed on the Main Stage on Friday. We also got to see Awolnation, Marina and the Diamonds and Kasabian and, out of these three bands, our definite favorites were Awolnation. Even though they had the difficult 16:00-17:15 spot, they managed to get the crowd out of the slackness caused by the heat and gave them a hell of a show.

The best thing about the Avicii concert was the fact that after it ended a big part of that huge and crowd moved in front of the A38 Stage to dance and have a lot of fun at the Dropkick Murphys concert. And it was incredible. The atmosphere was similar to the one you would find at a big football match, with everybody cheering and shouting their favorite team's name. The crowd sang every single song along with the band and danced during the whole concert. It was probably the most beautiful atmosphere that we have seen at a concert in a pretty long time.

As usual, we dedicated a part of the day to some of the smaller stages. This time we attended the concert of the beautiful and talented fado singer Mariza. Along with her band, the Portuguese artist gave a beautiful performance that charmed the crowd present in front of the World Music Stage.

We also checked out the Afro-Latin-Reggae Village where we watched the spectacular performance of the Ballet Sory Camara crew, a show that included playing with fire, gymnastics and balancing acts.

Imagine it, in a single day we saw a Swedish DJ superstar, an awesome American rock band, a Celtic punk band, a Portuguese fado singer and an African performer. That's diversity for you! And that's why we love Sziget Festival so much.
