Chicago band 'The super happy fun club' are a group of friends who's debut album 'Go fun yourself' was very well received. They toured Europe with Madina Lake and earned themselves a load of new fans. Since then however they've endured the death of a friend, the end of their singers marriage and experienced problems with alcohol, which doesn't really sound like a good situation to be in when it comes to writing music with a fun feel to it. Despite this though, the band have written and recorded their second album, 'All funned up', and found that the process acted as therapy for them

Brief comments on a few songs...

The album kicks off with 'Who drank my beer', which really gets things off to a flying start. It's a fast paced high energy song and has a fun feel to it on the surface, but when you listen to the lyrics it's a bit darker with the song being about problems with alcohol - needing a beer when they wake up at 7.30am, their wife being tired of bailing them out of jail and so on. It's a superb track despit being just over a minute long.

Really the first song sets a pattern for the album - high energy songs with a fun feel that contrast with the darker subjects covered lyrically. The pace does slow slightly from that set by 'Who drank my beer'

'Enemy' is one of the slower songs on the album. It's more mid-paced than slow though, so doesn't affect the overall energy of the album.

'Blinders' has a faster pace and a big chorus.

It's a great album - an excllent follow up to their debut, and is well worth a listen.

'All funned up' will be released on 5th August 2013 via Throop records
