Thirty-five years after it's original release, Slowhand is being re-released. The album contains some of his best known songs including "Cocaine", "Wonderful tonight" and "Lay down sally". The Hammersmith concert includes other classics such as "Layla", "I shot the sheriff" and "Knocking on heavens door"
"Slowhand, 35th Anniversary edition" comes in five different versions.
The first option is the Single CD release which is a remastered version of the original album
The Second option is a vinyl version which again is a remastered version of the original album
The third option is the Digital version which is a remastered version of the original album plus four album session outtakes.
Then come the really interesting ones - the Deluxe edition and the Super Deluxe edition.
The Deluxe edition is a double CD release and includes a remastered version of the original album plus four album session outtakes, and also includes 9 tracks from the Live at Hammersmith Odeon concert from 27th April 1977, 5 of which are previously unreleased.
The Super Deluxe edition gives you everything you get with the Deluxe edition plus an extra CD, a DVD and a Vinyl album, so thats 3 CDs, a DVD and an LP in the package. The extra CD means that instead of getting 9 tracks from the Hammersmith concert, you get all 14, spread over two of the CDs. The DVD gives you the Slowhand album remastered in Hi-resoultion stereo and 5.1 surround sound, and the vinyl LP is a remastered version of the original album
There is also special packaging to replicate the original Fender amplifier used on the recording, and also included are 3 replica tour programmes from the time & a book featuring a behind-the-scene look at the recording
Whichever option you go for, the original album is great and the remastered version sounds better than ever. With the Super Deluxe edition costing over £70 the price means it's only really for hardcore fans, but with the deluxe edition only costing around £13 then I'd certanly recommend that option rather than the basic single disc version - the Hammersmith concert makes it definitely worth going for the deluxe edition.
An excellent rerelease of a classic album from a true music legend.
"Slowhand 35th anniverary edition" will be released on 26th November 2012
