Overkill, Purified in blood, 3 inches of blood - Islington academy, London - 7th October 2012
Purified In Blood put in a very energetic set. Their music felt powerful, angry and aggressive, and Hallgeir Enoksen certainly looked the part. He did everything possible to get the crowd going including climbing over the barrier and singing from the crowd as he tried to stir up some energy from the crowd. If you like your music loud, powerful, aggressive and good then these guys are well worth a listen.
Next up came 3 inches of Blood. If ever there's a prize for the most misleading band name these guys must be in with a chance. The name certainly made me assume they were a black metal or death metal band and I was expecting unintelligable growling vocals, so to find they are actually a traditional heavy metal band was quite a surprise - and a very pleasant one. These guys were very impressive and put in a great set. They had the crowd on their side right from the start with plenty of cheering, moshing and general enjoyment clearly visible in the crowd. A band I certainly want to see again.
Tonight though was all about one band American Thrash legends Overkill. They're a band that I've been wanting to see for several years but they usually seem to play the UK on dates I'm not free, so I was definitely looking forwards to their set tonight, and I certainly wasnt disappointed. Right from the start they were outstanding. With plenty of songs picked from the last two albums plus a few less frequently played songs there was something for everyone in tonights set. Powerful, energetic, fun, and a great atmosphere - this gig really did have everything. A fantastic set from Overkill.
A great night of music !
