  Download Festival

Download is the most popular British summer rock and heavy metal festival. It has hosted some of rock's biggest names, including Black Sabbath, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Motörhead and Aerosmith. The festival is a Monsters of Rock for the 21st century. http://downloadfestival.co.uk

Download attracts a huge numbers of fans (around 100,000).

Download has four stages - the main outdoor stage, second stage which is similarly large and also outdoors, and two stages in large marquees. With bands playing on all four stages throughout the weekend then there is always a band worth watching on at least one of the stages. Download is not just about the bands though - there are hundreds of food stalls as well as clothes stalls, and stalls selling camping supplies and pretty much anything else a festival goer might want. The campsites are enormous - when they have to cater for as many people as a small town then you get an idea of their size. Adjoining the camping area is the "village" - a collection of eating places, bars, shops, a funfair, and marquees for entertainment (including a cinema) - everything that's needed to keep people occupied at night when the main arena is closed.

For those people who dont like the idea of camping, there are other options - from Luxury camping in tents, teepees or small wooden huts, to hotels. The luxury campsite even lets you park next to your tent which avoids having to carry heavy camping gear, and also has a noise curfew to allow people to get a good nights sleep.

All you need to know is this festival is serious, no holds barred head bangin devil horned ROCK!!! Go get your rock on!

Twenty years on from the release of the ground-breaking album, ‘Roots’, Max & Iggor Cavalera reunite to perform a seminal record in its entirety to the Download crowd.
Ready for more metal? Groove masters SikTh will bring the Main Stage mosh pit to life this year, while the deathcore stalwarts Suicide Silence are back with tracks from their fifth album.

Joining them are the unmissable supergroup, Krokodil, who are guaranteed to impress with their forceful metal. Bringing steel toed riffs and fistfuls of attitude to Donington are the UK stoner rock legends, Orange Goblin.

After receiving waves of critical and commercial success with his sophomore album, ‘General Admission’, Machine Gun Kelly brings his wild live shows to Download this June. Sick Puppies will serve up their incredible tooth-rattling rock, while the San Antonio rockers Nothing More ferociously tear up the Zippo Encore stage on Saturday.

There’s more. After supporting the likes of Black Stone Cherry and Halestorm, The Fallen State bring their soulful vocals to Download. Love Zombies will combine their mix of punk and new wave while Blackwaters whip up some chaotic indie punk. If you’re after some gritty modern blues, we’ve got that too in the shape of Bristol natives, Tax The Heat, plus some soulful rock n’ roll from Nashville’s Tyler Bryan & The Shakedown.

All these names join Download's previously announced headliners System of a Down, Biffy Clyro and Aerosmith.

GRAMMY NOMINATED VOLBEAT, THE LONG AWAITED REUNION OF SIKTH AND DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN ADDED TO DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL BILL

Suicide Silence, Buckcherry, Memphis May Fire, Battlecross, Jake E. Lee's Red Dragon Cartel, Arcane Roots, Thy Art is Murder, The Amity Affliction, Avatar, Lonely the Brave and Feed the Rhino also Donington-bound

Across the country unassuming members of finance teams shock co-workers with unsettling antics at office Christmas parties. The nation begins its countdown to the imminent shipment of the in-laws and empties entire booze aisles in every single supermarket, corner shop and off licence. At the North Pole, Elves reach for the Ritalin. Santa sits in the shower, crying.

Amid this merrily bleak landscape shines the flaming beacon of Download Festival, which today is pleased to present fans with something to ease the pain of the festive period: Legendary mathcore outfit SikTh will reunite to perform at Download Festival 2014. The sensational reunion will come six years after the cult Watford act broke fans’ hearts by parting ways in 2008.

SikTh’s Dan Weller said of the comeback: We've always said that one day we would get SikTh back together and do another show and next year just feels like the right time to stop the talking and do it. To be honest we really miss playing those songs.

Our fans have been so loyal so it's time to give them something back. We played Download in 2003 and 2006 so it seemed the obvious place for us to make a return.

Danish rockabilly metallers Volbeat, currently fresh from a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance, will also pillage Donington for a third time. Vocalist/guitarist Michael Poulsen commented: 2013 has been an amazing year for Volbeat. We had an absolutely fantastic UK tour in October this year, with some of the most passionate crowds ever. We can’t wait to get back there in 2014 and tear up the Download Festival!

A decade on from their first appearance, fellow metal pioneers Dillinger Escape Plan will return to Download Festival for the first time since the summer 2013 release of their latest album One of us is the killer.

The New Jersey band commented: It's been a while since we have done the Festival thing in the UK and Download has always been a highlight for us. Last time we played was my first time seeing the legendary Aerosmith and this time will be my second. Such an honour and privilege and we shall surely bring the fucking Ruckus!

Also joining the bill will be deathcore madmen Suicide Silence, playing Download for the third time, with guitarist Mark Heylmun already set to bring the thunder: Holy hell! I'm so stoked to be playing Download again. There's a soft spot in my heart for the UK, and Download is the shit! You know that as well as I do! Come have a blast with us or I'll be forced to have a blast without you!

Suicide Silence’s new frontman Eddie Herida will pop his Download cherry in 2014, and the ex-All Shall Perish screamer is pumped for the experience: UK! You aren’t even ready for us! Download Fest '14, wow! What a dream come true. I am so happy to be a part of such an amazing line-up and to see all you crazy English fucks tear it up with us!

Another band completing their Download hat trick will be American rockers Buckcherry, having first touched down on the racetrack in 2007.

Lonely the Brave are also back with a vengeance after their 2013 debut, commenting:
We are absolutely delighted to have been asked to play Download Festival 2014. Playing Download earlier this year was one of our greatest days as a band and felt like the highlight amongst a year full of highlights. We can't wait to come back and do it all again. See you there!

Next summer will initiate the next generation of rock and metal superstars into the Download sanctum, with American metallers Memphis May Fire and Battlecross, making their Download debuts.

Swedish tyros Avatar will also crash land in Leicestershire for the first time along with homegrown hellraisers Arcane Roots and Feed the Rhino, Aussie acts The Amity Affliction and Thy Art is Murder and former Ozzy Osbourne guitarist Jake E. Lee's Red Dragon Cartel.

Battlecross shredder Tony Asta summed up the buzz of playing Donington for the first time: Holy Shit we are playing Download. That's a huge milestone in our career to be part of something so huge, so great, and so fun. I've heard nothing but amazing things about the festival, what an honour it will be to share the stage with the greatest and hardest bands on Earth. We can't wait to expose the crowd to some good ol' American Heavy thrash metal and meet new fans from the UK and across the world. We're beyond hyped, so bring it in on! Donington Park, here we come!

Thy Art is Murder guitarist Andy Marsh echoed those thoughts: We're stoked to be playing Download 2014, cannot wait to show the home of British heavy metal what we've got.

Download promoter Andy Copping said of the new announcements: SikTh have taken on near-mythological status among rock and metal fans, so being able to provide an arena for their reunion is massive for us. Add this to the other world class and up-and-coming acts we’re announcing today – including the newly Grammy Nominated Volbeat – and Download 2014 is really starting to take shape.

This armada of axe-wielders is the first to be announced since Download Festival was crowned Best Major Festival at the 2013 UK Festival Awards.

These new additions join the previously announced headliners Avenged Sevenfold, Linkin Park playing Hybrid Theory and Aerosmith.

Tomorrow also marks the launch of Download’s Pub Quiz, which will see the festival’s Facebook page turned into a test of how well you know this year’s line-up. The quiz will take place over eight rounds leading up to Christmas Eve and rewards knowledge of rock history, music, lyrics, pictures and videos with a Rock God’s ransom of prizes. Get involved!

DOWNLOAD NAMED BEST MAJOR FESTIVAL AT THE 2013 UK FESTIVAL AWARDS.

Tuesday 3rd December, London: Download named big winner at the UK Festival Awards last night. The festival beat the likes of Glastonbury, Creamfields and T in the Park in a public vote.

Promoter Andy Copping said: “I’m immensely honoured that Download has been named Best Major Festival at the UK Festival Awards, especially considering the other British Institutions we were up against. Myself and the Download team work tirelessly every year to continue to make Download a festival we and the fans can be proud of. It’s been an incredible journey to watch it grow over the years, to become Europe’s biggest rock festival and now the Best Major Festival in the UK. We’re currently working day and night to ensure that Download 2014 will be the best yet. I can’t wait. Bring it on."

Acts already announced for Download 2014 include headliners Aerosmith, Avenged Sevenfold and Linkin Park (performing their legendary debut album, Hybrid Theory, in full), main support Alter Bridge, Fall Out Boy and Rob Zombie, and many more including Trivium, The Offspring, Steel Panther and Status Quo.

Also joining the bill are melodic death metallers The Black Dahlia Murder, Sheffield’s finest While She Sleeps, Arizona’s Blessthefall, Japanese electro metalcore outfit Crossfaith, Californian soul punks Letlive, Metalcore giants Miss May I and, of course, after the phenomenal demand of #whynotdyingfetus Dying Fetus.

THE OFFSPRING, STATUS QUO, STEEL PANTHER AND TRIVIUM AMONG NEW ACTS ANNOUNCED FOR DOWNLOAD 2014

Others acts announced: In Flames, While She Sleeps, Letlive, The Black Dahlia Murder, Crossfaith, Miss May I, Blessthefall and Dying Fetus

Download Festival’s 12th year is shaping up to be one of its best as the 2014 line up for Europe’s biggest rock festival continues to swarm over every inch of the rock, metal, punk and alternative music landscape like a zombie crusade.

Pop Punk royalty The Offspring will be returning to Download after a long absence from the festival, having appeared just once before in 2008.

Guitarist Noodles commented: It's been six years since we first played Download and we can't wait to return and rip it up. Stoked!

Rock legends Status Quo, who released their 100th single in 2013, make their Download Festival debut after over 50 years of producing some of the biggest guitar anthems in history and will be performing a purely greatest hits set.

On the prospect of returning to Donington, frontman Francis Rossi said: When Status Quo once again take to the Donington stage, it will have been 32 years since we headlined the Monsters of Rock Festival on August 21st 1982. That year saw the Falklands War, the launch of the Commodore 64, Aston Villa winning the European Cup and the raising of the Mary Rose. You might say a lot has changed since then but we are still rocking, and still playing the Quo hits. See you there.

The Quo will be joined by Metal titans Trivium who return to Donington for a very special performance of the set they played at their legendary first Download Main Stage appearance in 2005.

Bassist Paolo Gregoletto said: We are thrilled to be returning to Download for our 5th time. In honour of both the festival and fans that embraced Trivium first, we have decided to play our 2005 set list from start to finish, preceded by a set of some our other festival favourite tunes. However, to make it all the more unique, we will be playing this "one time only" set on the Red Bull Stage, the most intimate and intense setting possible for revisiting this special moment in time. We have had some of our best experiences as a band on the hallowed grounds of Donington, and this is shaping up to be one of our most exciting ones yet! Do not miss it!

Swedish metallers In Flames will also be joining the bill. Speaking on their return to the Home of Rock, frontman Anders Friden, added:

It has been a while since we last played the UK, so we are all excited and looking forward to coming back to play at Download Festival 2014.

Covering the classic metal end of the spectrum will be Steel Panther. A firm fan favourite, the spandex-clad, Sunset Strip rockers will be storming the sacred Donington stage for a fourth time.

Drummer Stix Zadinia said: Fish and chips. Tea and biscuits. Monty and Pythons. Steel Panther and Download Festival. These are four examples of how nature has been able to strike the perfect balance of harmony and elegance between two glorious and powerful things. We are so excited to come back and play Download Festival 2014. This was the place where we were truly introduced to the UK and it always feels like a homecoming to us. We in Steel Panther, are going to attempt to rock you so hard, that it will take you approximately one whole year to recover, only to muster enough energy to come back to DL2015 the following year to try to handle the power again! Roll on June!

Also joining the bill are melodic death metallers The Black Dahlia Murder, Sheffield’s finest While She Sleeps, Arizona’s Blessthefall, Japanese electro metalcore outfit Crossfaith, Californian soul punks Letlive, Metalcore giants Miss May I and, of course, after the phenomenal demand of #whynotdyingfetus Dying Fetus .

All of these huge bands will join headliners Aerosmith, Avenged Sevenfold and Linkin Park – playing their celebrated debut album Hybrid Theory in full - as well as special guests Alter Bridge, Rob Zombie and Fall Out Boy – all of whom were announced earlier this month.
