Rock Werchter A Belgian annual music festival held in the village of Werchter, near Leuven, since 1973. It is one of the five biggest annual rock music festivals in Europe (the other four being Exit, Sziget Festival, the Glastonbury Festival and Roskilde Festival). The 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2007 festivals received the Arthur award for best festival in the world at the International Live Music Conference. It can host 85,000 guests daily. The festival started in 1974 as a one-day event with performances from Banzai and Kandahar, but over the years it has evolved to become Belgium's largest music festival. Originally it was a double-festival, called "Torhout-Werchter", with two festival areas at different sites in Belgium: one in Werchter and one in Torhout. The festival is organised every first weekend of the summer vacation in Belgium (last weekend of June or the first of July). Until the 1990s the festival attracted mostly Flemish people, but in recent years it has become more and more international with an especially large influx of Dutch, French, Walloon, British and a notable Australian and South African contingent. Belgian alternatives remain in the Pukkelpop and Dour festivals. http://www.rockwerchter.be/ |

Rock Werchter is a story of large numbers. Meanwhile, it is a story of a few million visitors. Of billions of decibels. Of more than 1.000 concerts. Of more than 500 artists. From 20 countries.
Rock Werchter is a story of passion and desire. A few daredevils who wanted to put a meadow on a map. And who ended up at the best festival in the world with the best stage artists. Of many thousands of employees and volunteers who have provided the rocking humanity with food, tickets, mosquitoes ointment and a safe journey home. Of a village that rests 361 days in order to be able to give everything for 4 days.
Rock Werchter is a story of changing times. The history of Werchter is the history of the rock industry. They have grown up together, with ups and downs. It is the awakening of the youth culture in our country. And the beginning of many fantastic ways to celebrate summer. Rock Werchter is a story of people and moments. A first Werchter is like a first school trip, a first kiss … It is a poignant event, a lasting memory. That was the case in 1975 and that will still be the case in 2025.
