Java Jazz Festival Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival (JJF) is one of the largest jazz festivals in the world and arguably the biggest in the Southern Hemisphere, held in Jakarta, Indonesia. The annual jazz festival is held every early March and was designed to be one of the largest jazz festivals globally. It was held for the first time in 2005, when approximately 125 groups and 1,405 artists performed in 146 shows. The first festival was attended by 47,500 visitors during its three-day stretch. Years by years the visitor growing until hit more than 130.000 visitors from last 2015 event. JJF’s motto, “Bringing the World to Indonesia”, is implemented through the act of inviting numerous international artists to the festival. This is not only intended to treat the public with a feast of international talents, but also as an opportunity for international artists to see the talent of Indonesia’s jazz musicians, as well as jazz improvisations paired with Indonesian traditional music and also arouse collaborations on JJF's stages. Peter F. Gontha, the director claims that musicians are the appropriate ambassadors to vocalize peace. Througout the years, Java Jazz Festival has presented world distinguished artists such James Brown, Incognito, Santana, Stevie Wonder, Lee Ritenour, John Legend, Lisa Stansfield, Craig David, David Garfield, George Duke, Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, Joey De Francesco, Kenny Garret, Cucho Valdes, James Carter, Dave Grusin, Gregory Porter, George Benson, Omar Hakim, Phil Perry, Diane Warren, Natalie Cole, Jamie Cullum, Allen Stone, James Taylor Quartet, India Arie, Earth Wind and Fire Feat. Al McKay, Tania Maria, Mayer Hawthorne and many more. It has also presented talented Indonesian artists such as Sandhy Sondoro, Dira Sugandhi, Raisa, Barry Likumahuwa, Addie MS Family, Agnez Mo, Afgan, Dian Pramana Poetra, Jamie Aditya, Krakatau Reunion, Fariz RM, RAN, Marcell, etc. Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival showcases jazz, and other genres, including the ‘jazz ‘n beyond’ form presented by DJs.
