  Menuo Juodaragis

(English: Black Horned Moon, also known as MJR) is an annual independent and non-profit Lithuanian music festival for various post-folklore, folklore, neo-folk, alternative, experimental music and contemporary Baltic culture. It is a festival of contemporary Baltic culture focusing on the heritage of pagan tradition, Baltic culture revival, post-folk trends and avant-garde of contemporary music. M?nuo Juodaragis also offers other activities around these topics. The festival's programme includes lectures, tribal workshops, traditional rites, art exhibitions, various creative and ecologic actions, a selection of art house films, hikes, sports, folk dances and DJ parties. Traditionally, M?nuo Juodaragis stretches through three days and nights and has several scenes at a time. M?nuo Juodaragis is an independent event based on people's engagement and ideology. All festival's activities are based on personal initiatives and free will exclusive of any formal undertakings.
MJR is among the few events in Lithuania attracting foreign visitors. During the last few years, the festival was visited by guests from over twenty-five countries.
The program includes different styles of music ranging from ethno, neo-folk, post-folk, tribal, gothic to ambient, industrial, IDM, rock/metal, avant-garde and others. Yet, the bands usually share similarities in stylistic or lyrical content.

The brand new edition of yearly independent festival for native alternative music and contemporary Baltic culture traditionally will be held on the last weekend of Summer, August 26 - 28, 2016. This time MJR is calling all of us to new home, a marvellous wild island at Dūburys lake (20 km from Zarasai town), North-eastern Lithuania.

Mėnuo Juodaragis (Blackhorned Moon) is one of the most unique culture events in Baltics, one of the biggest Summer festivals in Lithuania. This creative open air is dedicated to revive native traditions and present most original artists from Baltic lands and other countries.

During three days and nights stages of Mėnuo Juodaragis will host over 40 live performances, involving great variety musical styles and famous international bands – from authentic folk to contemporary post-folk, modern music, rock and metal, from classical to shamanic, acoustic to cosmic electronic and much more.

The abundant festival programme also presents ancient crafts, lectures, art exhibitions, films, dance parties, archaic rituals, tribal workshops, hikes, land art, sports, theatre and many other subjects. This year festival theme embraces a concept of Home.
