Sziget | FESTIVALPHOTO
Sziget The "biggest" party of Europe takes place on an island in the Danube, right in the centre of Budapest, the capital of Hungary. Every August thousands from all over Europe head to what has become the biggest summer event of the continent. Over 1000 bands and artists perform on 60 stages: pop, rock, metal, hiphop, dance, world music, theatre, performance arts and everything in between. Why do tens of thousands of people from all over Europe head to the Sziget festival year after year? - The location of the festival in the heart of one of Europe’s most vibrant cities. You can be in the city centre within 15 minutes! You can leave and enter the festival island as often as you like. - The great weather; during the summer Hungary has the same climate as Spain. Forget about ponchos, bring some suncream instead! The wide variety of good food and beverage for cheap prices. - The international atmosphere of the festival. This is where East-Europeans party shoulder to shoulder with people from West-Europe. Only 25% of the visitors come from Hungary itself! - The ability to place your tent wherever you like, wether it’s next to your favourite stage or at the banks of the Danube river. - The variety of activities. Whether you want to learn belly dancing, do some bungee-jumping, learn Hungarian, take a dip in the swimmingpool, watch a movie, sing karaoke or just play football, it’s all possible at Sziget. There’s so much going on that sometimes it’s hard not to forget there are bands playing too! - The diversity of the bands and DJs performing and the number of stages. There is always something going on somewhere on the island. Any kind of music, any kind of entertainment. - The fact it’s on an island and the sheer size of the island. There’s so much to see and do you can’t really see every part of the island in just one week. www.szigetfest.eu |

Budapest has three major train stations: Nyugati Pályaudvar, Keleti Pályaudvar, Déli Pályaudvar. From any of these train stations you can get to Sziget very easily by public transportation. Plan the best route to the festival via the BKK (Centre for Budapest Transport) route planner site.
But we also have some tips:
From Nyugati Pályaudvar (20-25 minutes):
Take Tram 4-6 (right in front of the station) towards Széll Kálmán Tér. Get off the tram at the third stop called Margit Híd-Budai Hídfő. You will cross the Danube on the beautiful Margharet Bridge. On one side you can see the Margharet Island and on the other side you can see the Parliament and also the Castle!
At Margit Híd-Budai Hídfő take the stairs and get on the HÉV towards Szentende / Békásmegyer. The Sziget stop is called Filatorigát (4th stop). Get off here and follow the crowd until the entrance!
From Keleti Pályaudvar (40-45 minutes):
Look for the metro sign at the station! You should get on Metro 2 - Red Line towards Déli Pályaudvar. Travel on this air-conditioned, comfy vehicle until Batthyányi Tér (5th stop).
At the Batthyányi Tér station look for the HÉV lines and get on this train-like wagon chain and ride until Filatorigát (5th stop). Get off here and follow the crowd until the entrance!
From Déli Pályaudvar (25-30 minutes):
Look for the metro sign at the station! You should get on Metro 2 - Red Line towards Örs Vezér Tér. Travel on this air-conditioned, comfy vehicle until Batthyányi Tér (2nd stop).
At the Batthyányi Tér station look for the HÉV lines and get on this train-like wagon chain and ride until Filatorigát (5th stop). Get off here and follow the crowd until the entrance!

Sziget can today reveal that Lana Del Rey will be bringing some glamorously melancholic pop to the 26th edition of Sziget. She’ll be joining the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Dua Lipa, Gorillaz, Kendrick Lamar, Mumford & Sons, and Kygo who are all headlining this unforgettable festival. Hosting some of the world’s biggest stars, Sziget has 50 stages, bringing together over 450,000 people and is tipped as the continent’s Glastonbury equivalent. Having won ‘Line-up of the Year’ in 2017, Sziget is back 8-15 August. Day tickets start at €70 with three, five and seven-day tickets also available. For more information and tickets, visit szigetfestival.com.
The ‘Lust for Life’ hitmaker, Lana Del Rey will be bringing her unique style of glamorous pop melancholia to Budapest’s Sziget Festival in August. Recognized for her dreamy lyricism, tragic romance and ability to tap into historic pop culture, she’s come a long way from her New York roots. Her homemade music videos for ‘Video Games’ and ‘Blue Jeans’ went viral for their stylized cinematic qualities in the build up to her breakthrough album ‘Born to Die’, for which she won a Brit award. Her second album, ‘Paradise’ earned her two Grammy nominations
Del Rey’s most recent accomplishments include collaborations with The Weeknd, ASAP Rocky and Stevie Nicks for her number-one album ‘Lust for Life’. Recently it was revealed that the pop icon was in the process of writing a musical and shared a dreamy rendition of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘You Must Love Me’, originally performed by Madonna. She is sure to exude retro sensibility with futuristic flair when she plays the sun-kissed island of Sziget this summer.
Further new additions to the Sziget 2018 line up also revealed include Fever Ray, BØRNS, Asaf Avidan, Don Diablo, Aurora, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, ZHU, Tujamo, Damian Lazarus & the Ancient Moons, Jan Blomqvist & band and SG Lewis.
Sziget is one of the world’s largest music and arts festivals. It takes place on Budapest's Óbudai-sziget, which is appropriately transformed into the 'Island of Freedom' every August. It welcomes 'Szitizens' from over 100 nations, of all backgrounds, in one place. Revelers will enjoy performances courtesy of some of today’s biggest artists, including hip-hop superstar Kendrick Lamar, and acclaimed DJ extraordinaire Kygo. There’s also the mind-blowing virtual band, Gorillaz, pop’s newest darling and 2018 Brit Award winner, Dua Lipa and the folk-rock legends Mumford & Sons who are playing a European festival exclusive.
