  Jabberwocky

Jabberwocky is a brand new two-day festival for London, brought to you by ATP, Pitchfork, and Primavera Sound. Set in the ExCeL Centre, this will be a welcome addition to the London summer calendar and a great chance to see those acts you rarely see programmed at other UK festivals.

Priced at a very keen £35 per day or just £60 for 2 days, it's a win/win for lovers of music that pushes against the flow.

LINE UP SO FAR: Neutral Milk Hotel, Caribou, Deafheaven, Pissed Jeans, Kode9, Vatican Shadow, The Ex, Earth, I Break Horses, Electric Wizard, Jesu, Iceage, Speedy Ortiz, Connan Mockasin, Joanna Gruesome, Metz, Chelsea Wolfe, Hookworms, Eaux and The Growlers.

There are many more acts and DJs yet to be added, and soon to be announced also is the cinema programme, and other extra-curricular activities.

Jabberwocky, the poem in the wonderful 1871 Lewis Carroll book ‘Through the Looking Glass' is firstly a brilliant word and also the origin of the word portmanteau. In it, Humpty Dumpty eloquently explains that in a portmanteau "there are two meanings packed up into one word." Jabberwocky thus gives us words such as "chortled" a combination of 'chuckle' and 'snort' and "frabjous" a blend of fair, fabulous, and joyous.

Jabberwocky, the festival, is thus an elegant way to package up this collaboration of these 3 pioneering companies. ATP, Pitchfork and Primavera Sound come together with a lineup of a calibre all too lacking in the UK summer calendar. Brilldy. (That's a cross between bloody and brilliant by the way).

Hailing from Australia but based in beautiful Reykjavík, Iceland Ben Frost’s compositions are simultaneously unforgiving, heavy and alluring. Embracing minimalism and electronica as much as punk and metal, Ben Frost's sound is an intensely physical musical experience that explores every extreme of pitch and volume.

Mutual Benefit's Jordan Lee crafts elegant and lush baroque indie pop as featured on last years impeccable 'Loves Crushing Diamonds'. The band's revolving lineup gives the group a fluidity and motion that is so often lacking in modern indie. Lee's nomadic tendencies only add to the rich tapestry of the songs found within, intricately navigating the human condition and encompassing happiness and heartbreak via everything in between.

In addition to his Frabjuous Sunday appearance, Dutch, Brooklyn based minimalist composer Jozef Van Wissem will be bringing his heavy and hypnotic music to the ExCeL on Friday. His beautiful compositions earned him the Cannes Soundtrack Award for his work on Jim Jarmusch's 'Only Lovers Left Alive'.

With their newly released Constellation Records full length 'More Than Any Other Day' being labelled 'Best New Music' by Pitchfork, Montreal post-punks Ought's anxious and angular tunes mark them as a band who demand attention. Their sound quite rightly draws comparisons to legends like Lungfish, Gang Of Four and Cap'n Jazz.

In addition there will be a Surprise Act to be announced on July 21st!

For those of you who are coming from out of town or are missing the sleepover aspect of a traditional ATP where everyone gets to hang out with each other each morning and night, we have collaborated with Ace Hotel London to put together some special hotel packages for Jabberwocky. Each package includes two nights accommodation with breakfast, two weekend festival tickets, ATP goodies including exclusive Jabberwocky merch, passes to the Ace Hotel Jabberwocky after parties and priority entry to the Frabjous Sunday Ace Hotel activities. There will also be a dedicated wristband pick up at the Ace Hotel, so you can be prepared before getting to site.

Ace Hotel London Shoreditch hangs its hat in London's most creative, engaged district. A hub for galleries, theatre and design, Shoreditch is home to the Brick Lane Market, landmark creatives and renegade artists from around the world. The neighbourhood's legacy includes theatres running banned 16th century plays, the debut of drag pioneer Hetty King and the first rumbles of industrialized craft in the Western Hemisphere. Today, it's a place where art, design, culinary innovation, culture and tech gather and phosphoresce from the heat of collaboration, inspiration and a soft spot for the future.

Held across the weekend at Shapes in Hackney Wick and The Ace Hotel in Shoreditch, free to anyone with a Jabberwocky wristband for the respective day and priority entrance to all parties for Ace Hotel packageholders, the events see acts from the festival and more join in the after hours festivities following the inaugural Jabberwocky Festival.

Friday and Saturday see the party move to Shapes in Hackney Wick, one minute from the train station and with taxis and buses available 24/7 this is the perfect position for Jabberwocky fans that just aren't ready to call it a day after the main festival.

On the Friday the inimitable Kode9 will be bringing his bass heavy mix of house, garage, dubstep, grime and hip hop to Shapes for what promises to be a jaw dropping set! Joining him will be patten playing a live set of his extremely varied and visceral mix of early house, shoegaze and post punk! Rounding off the Friday will be Primavera DJs Fra Soler and Coco.

Saturday will see an extra special DJ set from the two-piece ever arresting electronic legends and ATP Recordings signees Fuck Buttons. Since their beginnings in 2004 their larger than life visceral, dense and noisy electro has seen them release three critically acclaimed albums of drone straddling, strangely melodic visceral techno. Joining Fuck Buttons DJs on the night will be purveyor of dark, melancholy techno and house Andy Stott alongside Pitchfork DJs and ATP resident DJ Declan Allen.

In addition to Shapes, festival goers who are wishing to keep going can head over to the Ace Hotel in Shoreditch, a stones throw from the easily accessible Shoreditch High St station and many bus routes!

Performing on the Friday will be Montreal post-punks Ought. Their sound often draws comparisons to Lungfish, Gang Of Four and Cap'n Jazz and their angular riffs mixed with more rounded textures certainly hearken back to these sounds. Rounding off the Friday will be Death Waltz Records DJs.

Last seen for ATP at February's 'Only Lovers Left Alive' event Cherrystone's expert crate digging and eclectic exploration of sounds has earned him the status as the go to DJ for bands such as Wolf Eyes and Dead Meadow. He'll perform on the Saturday alongside ATP DJs.

To close the weekend Jabberwocky presents the very special Frabjous Sunday at The Ace Hotel a day of music beginning around brunch. Having surprised fans world wide with the release of their new record 'Drop' following their hiatus last year Thee Oh Sees will be playing another extra special set at The Ace Hotel following their festival set on the Friday. John Dwyer and co play garage punk, soul and psych of the highest order and to say that their live show is unrivalled would be an understatement! Brooklyn based Dutch minimalist composer Jozef Van Wissem will be joining the Sunday lineup to soothe souls with his heavy and hypnotic music. His beautiful compositions earned him the Cannes Soundtrack Award for his work on Jim Jarmusch's 'Only Lovers Left Alive'.

Having in his short 24 years released music as the frontman of Cajun Dance Party and Yuck as well as under his Daniel In The Lion's Den and Oupa handles, the prodigious Daniel Blumberg now goes by the name Hebronix.Having signed to ATP Recordings and drawing comparisons to the likes of Built To Spill and Silver Jews his music is hypnotic, fuzz-flecked pop of the highest order. London trio and new ATP Recordings signings Eaux also join the after party lineup armed with an elegant darkness sure to bring a dramatic, theatrical quality to the day. Pitchfork & ATP DJs round off the weekend's lineup!
